Raynor Deep Tissue Massage

At Watts Up Performance, I understand the demands that sport and everyday life can put on the body, along with that the build up of muscular tension leading to uncomfort. Working with clients to aid quicker recovery which leads to continued training routines can help your progress toward your long and short term goals.

What exactly is a Raynor massage?

Raynor Massage is a holistic system of bodywork inspired by Chinese Medicine, reflexology, shiatsu, and yoga breathing work. The primary goal of a Raynor Massage is to find and relieve tension and muscle tightness in any area of the body. It’s widely considered to be a form of deep relaxation massage. The body will be aided in returning to its natural state of relaxation after we pinpoint tension areas and work out any deep areas of tension.

Your Raynor deep tissue massage will begin with finding and releasing tension in the body by working through the bodies' five anchor points, hands, feet, and head. From there, we target specific areas causing the client the most issues, by working along the various bands of tension in the body.

Who is a Raynor massage best for?

Raynor Massage is best for anyone needing to relieve residual tension and muscle tightness. I cater each Raynor massage to the client’s individual needs. I don’t believe in routine massage, everyone has a unique treatment requirement, to best help relieve your body of pressure and restoring its natural balance. The Raynor technique can especially benefit sports people. The goal is to find the source of your tension.

Raynor massage is also very useful for easing stress in our day to day lives. Mental and physical stress both have similar traits in how tension can be created. By helping to release this tension clients can quite often walk away feeling more at ease mentally as well as physically.

Raynor massage vs. traditional sports massage

A Raynor deep tissue massage is more of a holistic approach to a traditional sports massage. A sports massage usually focuses on treating minor and chronic injuries related to strenuous physical activity. A Raynor Massage can be used to treat a much more extensive range of different health problems and sports-related aches and pains because of the focus on areas of the body that are too often neglected by traditional massage therapists. We focus on the areas of the body that tend to hold a lot of tension like the abdomen, hips, feet, hands, and head.

What can a Raynor Massage be used to treat or benefit?

  • Increased circulation
  • Lower back pain
  • Sports Recovery
  • Sciatica
  • Frozen Shoulder
  • Improved focus
  • Emotional and mental stress
  • Facial tension
  • Abdominal issues
And many more

FAQ

What area of the body does the massage cover
Raynor massage covers the full body, with a focus on hands, feet, and head. You are covered over throughout, with only the areas being worked on exposed at that time. The clients dignity is well respected throughout.
What to wear
After our consultation, I’ll leave the room and you will be asked to undress down to your pants, women are also asked to remove their bra so we can work on the back freely. You will be draped in comfortable blankets with only the area we’re working on at that time being uncovered. At all times you are given the utmost respect.
Some say deep tissue massage is painful , is this correct?
The initial areas of deep tension can be slightly painful, but I work with you the whole time, so we only go as deep as you’re comfortable with.
If you do have very high tension areas, the initial treatment will remove a lot of that, with subsequent visits being more comfortable as that deep rooted tension releases.
We also work together with any pain thresholds, and where areas of tension have been worked through, the massage becomes very therapeutic.
Will I experience anything unexpected during the massage?
Raynor massage is very good at releasing emotional tension, so in that sense some clients do let that out in different ways. That could be tearful, laughter, or just a sensation of well being.
I am also NLP trained, so if this is something that happens during your massage, I am willing to talk over anything with you, but only if you wish.
How will I feel after the massage?
Some feel very relaxed, others very energised. It’s very dependant from person to person. Either way, it is usually a very positive feeling.
Will I be sore afterwards?
Due to the nature of Raynor massage, we do work on tension areas, so in some cases you may feel a little tender on those areas the following day. The good news is, we will have worked through that initial tension, and further visits will feel less residual after affects.
Some people who are prone to easily bruising can on some occasions have bruising afterwards, but all these things are very normal and nothing to be concerned about.
Drinking plenty of water afterwards, and flushing out the toxins helps with this process.
I’m a sportsperson, is this for me?
Certainly, Raynor deep tissue massage has many benefits in the recovery process to use as part of your maintenance program.
Prevention is always better than cure in sport, and adding regular Raynor massage into your routine will help with the following:

  • Improved circulation which brings more blood around the muscles speeding up the repair process
  • Improved relaxation which in turn aids in sleep pattern
  • Helps with flexibility and range of motion
  • Speeds up the recovery process between sessions

These are just to name a few.
The big difference from regular sports massage, is Raynor massage works the full body, and gets to the areas which are often neglected in sports massage which generally goes straight to the area of pain or tiredness.
